Studio X Gym: a 20min workout using EMS

Sara Hudson

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is hard nowadays. Managing our time schedule with work, personal hobbies, family-time and seeing friends can be very overwhelming (trust me I know!) and trying to add a workout plan can be the very last thing we want to do. This past weekend, I was invited to try out the very new and innovative training concept at Studio X Gym in Montreal. Their workout program uses EMS (electrical muscle stimulation) that allows us achieve a complete training program in only two 20min sessions per week.

When I arrived at my personal training session, I got an explanation of how everything worked and got to change into the special gym clothes – how amazing does that electrode vest looks? I felt as if I was going on a special mission. By mimicking our nervous system, EMS sends electrical impulses to the deepest tissues of our body without affecting our joints. And it works for every type of workouts. This new form of training has been widely used in the medical field and professional athletes have been using this Health Canada approved program to improve their performance.

After linking me up to a machine that controls the intensity of the electrical impulses, we did multiples series of exercises in 20 minutes (with small breaks included): squats, deadlifts, lunges, push-ups, rows, stretches and much more. I honestly did not expect my session to be that intense and to sweat that much (mind you, my trainer asked me what workout plan I was doing beforehand so he made sure to adjust my workout).

I normally go to the gym 3 times a week and do a traditional workout plan (with machines and weights). With EMS, you can target the exact same muscles and do either a more focus training or a full body workout. Whether it is to lose weight, increase your strength, be toner, improve your posture and enhance your core stability, Studio X Gym has you covered. Plus, EMS training is personalized to fit your goals: it will constantly adjust the intensity of the stimulation.

No more weights, no more wait and no possibility of injuries due to bad posture or lifting too heavy weights… Studio X Gym has the solution and is one the first fitness centers to provide this form of training in North America – a concept that is already extremely popular in Europe. Make sure to check out their website and to follow them on Facebook and Instagram to have more information.

You can also get a free trial before July 16th! Don’t miss your chance 🙂
