How I Edit My Instagram Pictures

Sara Hudson

Taking quality and interesting Instagram pictures is a quest everyone is looking for nowadays. I have been asked a lot of times to share my tricks and tips on my blog. The only reason why I did not write a blog post about how I edit my Instagram photos was because I was never truly satisfied with how my feed looked like. As effortless as it seems, keeping a cohesive theme while sharing quality pictures is harder than it looks. By no way am I saying that my own pictures and feed are perfect! I am still learning as all of you how to get better at it. I truly hope this article will be useful. Let me know if you have any other tips as well!

Theme

The very first step when I edit my pictures is to make sure it suits my theme. As you can see from my own page, my aesthetic is very bright and warm. As my Instagram page is closely related to my blog, I feature the same topics: fashion, food, beauty and lifestyle and I make sure to stick to these. There are so many themes to choose from: colourful, grey-toned, black and white, minimal, grainy, vintage and much more. When choosing your theme, the most important thing to remember is to always stay true to yourself and to your style!

Editing Apps

It is no secret that we all use multiple editing apps before publishing a picture on Instagram. The most well-known are: Snapseed, Facetune, Vsco, Enlight, Mextures and more. Depending on the original picture taken, I will either adjust the brightness, the contrast, the sharpness, the warmth and the saturation. As you can see from my before and after pictures, some photos need less touch ups than others. It all depends on numerous factors which are listed down below!

Lighting

Lighting is another essential aspect in photography. Since my feed is incredibly bright, I always and only take pictures in natural light. Shooting in daylight also has its difficulties as you will never have the exact same lighting. Shooting on a sunny will give you a completely different light than shooting on a overcast day. Also taking pictures in different times of the day, with different backgrounds, different subjects, textures and so on will always give you a different result. This is where editing apps become very handful!

Cameras

Cameras also play such a big part in the quality of the pictures. All of my Instagram pictures are taken with my phone, which is the iPhone 7s. You do not need to necessarily have the very latest camera in order to take quality pictures. I do not own the iPhone 8, iPhone X or the Google Pixel 2 and I am very satisfied with my feed.

Angles

Taking pictures from different angles will never do you wrong. I personally take a great (and embarrassing) amount of pictures of the same shot but with different angles to make sure to get the perfect one. Do not be afraid or shy and click away! Practice makes perfect and the best way to practice is to take as many shots as you can.

There you go! Here are the few little things I live by when it comes to my Instagram feed. It is also really important to always remember to have fun with it! I really hope these tips were handy and I will see you all in my next blog post <3
