This past May, Patricia Gucci, born illegitimate daughter of Aldo Gucci, released her new memoir In the Name of Gucci. In her book, she discusses and reveals the complex relationship underlying her famous family. As a great adept of fashion houses and designers, I was extremely happy to receive this book which would open my eyes into the unknown world and never-before-told love story of Aldo Gucci.
Have you read In the Name of Gucci yet? What are your thoughts about Patricia Gucci’s book?
In the Name of Gucci charts the story of Patricia’s father, from the family drama to the rise and fall of the man behind this legendary fashion label. Based on the author’s own memories, researches, a collection a love letters and interviews from her mother, as well as unseen photos, she pictures the gripping tale of love and loss, treason and loyalty.
Patricia Gucci was born into a high-profile familial legacy. Her parents’ relationship had to be kept in privacy to avoid controversy. In her memoir, she explores the evolution of their courtship, from their very first signs of attraction when Bruna, Patricia’s mother, was a teenage Gucci salesgirl to her own hushed birth. A secret and a lovechild who could have mean the ruin of her father. Throughout the book, Patricia Gucci describes Aldo as an extraordinary and dynamic businessman and fashion figurehead, but yet as an infrequently present father who nevertheless brought joy, passion and movement in her life.
From the hidden daughter to Gucci’s spokesperson and Gucci’s youngest protégée, Patricia Gucci became Aldo’s sole heir after being betrayed by his own sons. In the Name of Gucci wishes to bring Aldo his rightful place in history. A powerful and emotional memoir that I highly recommend everyone working, living or even simply interested in the fashion industry and in this Italian fashion powerhouse.
