I have always dearly loved Montreal, especially in the last years. Being born and having grown in this gorgeous city, I learned how unique, charming and friendly Montreal was and is. I have come to realize how lucky I am, having an incredible family, amazing friends, a great job and living in a great country. As much as everything is perfect in my life, I felt as if I was missing something important. Happiness. Now, I am by no means saying I was not happy with my life. I was content, satisfied. But I knew I could find my happiness elsewhere… and that elsewhere meant leaving the country.
In my recent years, I have felt as if I did not fully belong in Montreal, perhaps culturally-wise? I felt as if I have seen most of what Montreal had to offer me, even if there still is so many places I have still yet to discover. But I felt as if everything looked and felt the same.
Here I am, in Montpellier, a small city in the South of France. Why Montpellier? I have always loved Europe. I fell in love with the architecture, the history, the culture and the art this continent has to offer. I chose Montpelier as I wanted to start my new life in a fairly calm and stressless city. I have now been here for a bit more than 3 weeks and I have been loving it since my very first day.
The city, the overall vibe, the people, my roommates… everything is exactly how I imagined it, even better. I have never felt happier in my life since I graduated. Being in a brand new city where nobody knows me is extremely relieving. I can do everything I want to do and when I want to do it. I do not have the pressure I had back in Montreal where I had to know all the new places, new products, new activities and so on. I always had to come up with new pictures and concepts where I truly wasn’t feeling inspired or motivated anymore. I hit a big wall and I felt I could not keep up with what Montreal or North America overall was asking from me.
I am now living the life I have always dreamed of, traveling to other countries and meeting so many new people! I hope this post explained the reasons why I temporarily left Montreal. My new life is definitely simpler than the one I had back home and I am truly loving every single part of it.
