The Old Montreal is one of my favourite places in the city and there are so many restaurants/lounges, coffee shops and art galleries waiting to be discovered. Being a lounge and cocktail lover, I was told to try out the much hyped Suite 701 to have an amazing experience. If any of you love drinking delicious cocktails in the middle of the most beautiful neighbourhood in Montreal, the following loungy restaurant is a must next stop.
Like most of the buildings in this neighbourhood, Suite 701 has a very sophisticated, classic and contemporary decor. Situated in a hotel, this lounge has been well-known for its amazing decor, its really good drinks and of course its rooftop terrace. The overall style and architecture of the lounge recall the late 19th century. The first main floor and room is very fast and well-presented with its high ceiling, its tall windows letting the natural light illuminate the entire room, its ceiling-high drapes surrounding each window and finally its beautiful chandeliers in bird cages.
Red wine, white wine, martinis, hard liquors, mojitos, sangrias, fruit-based cocktails… name it and they have it. The drinks are very tasty, original and well presented. Drinks are around the price range of 12$-14$, but they are worth every penny. The best part of it all? You can joyfully sip your drink while enjoying the amazing view of the old port and the downtown skyline. Suite 701’s rooftop terrace, Terrasse Place d’Armes, is the main attraction of the restaurant during summertime.
The good and not too loud music, and the very friendly service and staff make the whole ambiance quite nice and relaxing. If you are more of a dancer type of person, you will be happy to hear that the entire first floor turns into a club at night. Having not tried their food menu yet, I suggest you to visit Urbanspoon or Yelp Montreal for further reviews. As for the lounge side of this restaurant, I absolutely recommend Suite 701 to anyone wanting to start off an amazing night in the Old Port.
